Este belo receiver da época de ouro da Marantz foi me confiado para reparação por um amigo meu e que me dizia que o problema era que o som tendia a desaparecer ou a enfraquecer e a distorcer, em qualquer um dos canais.
Feito os primeiros testes apercebi me imediatamente de duas coisas: a tomada de ligação dos headphones parecia ter mau contacto (pois o problema era pior e variava conforme se mexia no conector comparado com o uso de colunas) e o selector de canal de entrada afectava a situação. Tendo em conta o facto de todo o receiver dar a impressão de considerável grau de oxidação devido à idade e humidade ambiente, suspeitei de contactos oxidados no selector de entrada e tomada dos phones.
Abri cuidadosamente a parte de cima do selector de entradas (é preciso muito cuidado para não se perder nenhuma das pequenas peças que fazem a ligação no seu interior) e apliquei uma boa quantidade de spray deoxit. Também lixei com lixa de água as partes móveis. O mesmo fiz com a tomada de phones, desmontei-a totalmente e tive mesmo de lixar, estavam os contactos "pretos".
Ainda assim, havia problemas, por vezes não tocava de todo ou de repente ficava com som se aumentasse o volume ou se o desligasse e voltasse a ligar.
Tinha de haver outro problema. Fiz testes com a entrada TAPE que não passa pelo circuito de selecção, mas mesmo aí o problema persistia.
Testei os módulos de amplificador de potência injectando sinal audio directamente e funcionavam bem, não era portanto nenhum transistor (nem mesmo os ínfames 2sa750 que tendem a dar problemas), mas o problema volta a meia aparecia.
Como o meu amigo me pediu para fazer recap, troquei os condensadores, mas o problema manteve-se.
Visto que o ligar e desligar do aparelho afectava a situação e tendia a melhorar com maior volume (=maior corrente, conseguindo passar mesmo por camadas de oxidação), comecei a suspeitar do relé de protecção das colunas e foi em cheio: abri o relé e os contactos por dentro estavam "pretos". Depois de uma boa lixadela e muito spray deoxit, o relé ficou como novo e o problema resolvido, o receiver a tocar lindamente.
Descobri entretanto que isso é um problema comum nos receivers da Marantz desta série em que levam relé de protecção.

This beautiful receiver from the golden age of Marantz arrived on my desk coming from a friend with the request to repair it, as it was having intermittently distorted or weaker sound, on either channel.
After first tests I noted two things: the headphone socket had a bad contact and the channel selector was influencing the problem. Taking into account that the whole receiver had signs of oxidation due to age and humid environment, I suspected of oxidized contacts in headphone socket and channel selector.
I carefully disassembled the channel selector (you have to watch out to not loose any of the tiny parts inside) and yes, the contacts were in bad shape, I had to apply deoxit spray and even sand them. The same I did with the headphone socket, it was also in really bad shape.
Things got better, but still something was wrong, sometimes the sound would disappear or reappear if volume level was raised or the receiver switched off and back on. There had to be another problem. I made some tests with TAPE input which doesn't go through selection circuit, but the problem persisted.
I even injected audio directly to power amp modules and they played fine, but problem persisted now and then (so it was not a transistor or something, note that this receiver has the infamous 2sa750, but they were all good).
My friend had asked me to do a full recap and I did so, but it didn't help.
Taking into account that the problem was linked to raising the volume (which creates larger current, making it easier to go through oxidized paths) and the switching off and back on also influenced the occurrence, I started to suspect of the speaker protection relay. I opened it up and bingo, its contacts were black. I sanded and sprayed them with deoxit and after reassembly, the received was working just fine, with great sound quality.
I then learned that this speaker protection relay problem is common on Marantz receivers of this series.
